Shinkan Shoujo (新幹少女) is a rival unit appearing on Episode 10 of THE iDOLM@STER anime. They consist of three idols: Nozomi, Hikari, and Tsubame.

History

The unit debuted in Episode 10 of THE iDOLM@STER (anime) where they served as antagonists to 765 Production. Around that time of the series, Kodama Productions was more well-established than 765 Production and planned to sabotage 765's victory in the Idol Sporting event.

Members

  • Tsubame (Voiced by Tsugumi Higasayama): The one with dark brown hair tied into twintails with two yellow flowers and possibly the leader of the unit, due to being featured in the center. She appears to be sweet and innocent for the camera but behind it is rather sassy and manipulative.
  • Hikari (Voiced by Momoko Saitō): The one with long blue hair and a red flower on the left side of her hair. She is the most serious of the trio and was the one who made Yayoi cry after telling her she's bringing the team down. She later apologized for this in the the manga that occurs in the same continuity.
  • Nozomi (Voiced by Yui Shōji): The one with long chestnut brown hair with a side ponytail and a green flower on the ride side of her hair. She is the silly member of her group, as shown with her crush on 765 Production's Makoto Kikuchi, at first assuming she was a man. Cries after they were defeated at the finale of the Idol Sporting event, for she intended to ask Makoto Kikuchi on a date if they won.

  • THE iDOLM@STER ONE FOR ALL - Shinkan Shoujo appear as rivals in the Rank C festivals, individually. However, they appear in name only, as they do not have character models, an image song, or in-game voices.

In Adaptations

  • THE iDOLM@STER (anime) - Shinkan Shoujo made their debut in Episode 10, where they, alongside their producer, served as antagonists for 765 Production. Hikari in particular caused Yayoi to have an emotional breakdown after telling her that she's bringing 765Pro down.
  • THE IDOLM@STER (Mana) - Shinkan Shoujo returns in Chapter 12 of the manga based on the anime as a continuation of its plot. After the events of Episode 10, Hikari decided that she was too rough on Yayoi and apologizes for saying such harsh words back then, She compliments her performance, afterwards.
  • THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE - The unit appears on a poster in the background.
  • THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls (anime) - The unit appears on a magazine ad in Episode 1.

Trivia

  • So far, they are the only characters that debuted in the anime to appear in the main series of games, albeit in name only.
  • Their group is named after Japan's bullet train service network (Shinkansen in Japanese), and their names are taken from three service names of the network, respectively.
  • Tsubame is voiced by the same voice actress who voiced Mami Futami in Xenoglossia.
